MARRIOTT HOTELS

HERTFORDSHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM

Hertfordshire, an area of rich natural beauty, has been the setting and inspiration for some of the world’s most beloved stories. Oscar Wilde and Jane Austen both used the lush countryside as backdrops in their works. As well, George Bernard Shaw and the Harry Potter cast literally inhabited the village of Ayot St Lawrence and Leavesden Studios (respectively) as they created their characters’ worlds. As the area continues to offer a variety of experiences, much as it has since the eighth century, accommodations in Hertfordshire have generously woven themselves throughout the county’s landscape.

Delight in the beautiful greenery, as the town of Letchworth has the honor of being the first Garden City in the United Kingdom (1903) and the city of St Alban features the Royal National Rose Society Gardens. Thanks to our hotels across Hertfordshire, aspirations of exploring the more obscure sites, such as Scott’s Grotto in Ware and Royston Cave in Royston, are easily fulfilled.

Not far from the rose gardens, look for St Albans Abbey, now a Cathedral, with foundations reaching back 900 years. Older still are the remains of the nearby Roman city, Verulamium, and Ye Old Fighting Cocks pub, both regularly sought after by our Hertfordshire hotel patrons.
